We believe in the urgency of building a healthier democracy

Our Story

Headquartered in the Southern heartland, Nashville, Tennessee, we envision a future for our country where every American feels safe and free to be themselves. In essence, this is how we realize peace through fostering a sense of belonging. The process and principles of Truth and Reconciliation serve as a foundation to our mission, vision, and action. Through years of extensive research, subject matter expertise, and global practice, Millions of Conversations developed a strategic theory of change that combines national media engagement with grassroots organizing to peace build, resolve conflict, heal divides, and strengthen democracy in America.

Millions of Conversations exposes and counters currents of mis- and disinformation that can lead to fear, hate, and violence. We challenge narratives that stigmatize our fellow Americans, disrupt intolerance before it takes root, and help heal communities so that all Americans may experience a sense of belonging. With conflict mediation practices, we reach and connect with people who are vulnerable to messaging that perpetuates moderate to strongly intolerant beliefs about one or more marginalized groups. Our work is realized through a robust partnership ecosystem; foundational research on messaging and messengers that resonate with everyday Americans; comprehensive media campaigns that disrupt mis- and disinformation; and dynamic programming that engages, educates, and trains all Americans on how to work collectively through MoC’s Steps to Sustainable Peace.
