Project 3142
Named after the number of counties in America, Project 3142 was created to support local communities in rebuilding trust among citizens and restoring agency to the community as a whole. In each neighborhood, we start small, connect, gather, identify issues, form a task force, build, do, learn, tell the story—and then replicate this work in other counties across America.
We are on a mission to disrupt the currents of mis/disinformation that polarize us and transform hate and fear into acceptance and belonging. And our results are promising: conversation by conversation, step by step, practical project by practical project, online engagement by online engagement, “those people” are re-framed as “us.”
The Process
Conduct Research
Millions of Conversations dives deep, conducting in-depth research to learn everything we can about the area’s history, ecosystem, and local issues. Before taking any action, we work first to listen and understand.
Form a Task Force
We identify and get to know current and emerging local leaders who want more for their community. Then we train them in listening facilitation and conflict mediation.
Develop Ecosystem
The newly-identified task force establishes partnerships with local organizations, community groups, individuals, leaders, and stakeholders. Because this process takes a village.
Address Issues
Millions of Conversations supports the task force and ecosystem partners in the process of identifying issues and zeroing in on one with the most pressing need. Together we get to work, solving problems respectfully by uniting around common values and a shared vision of their community’s future. And then, importantly— telling the stories that got us from there to here.
Measure + Evaluate Progress
Because you can only manage what can be measured, we are constantly evaluating the work we do, and looking for areas to improve. Looking at progress through this discerning lens helps the task force and MoC understand areas of growth and learnings for other counties.
